Project Description

The Santa Ynez Valley Trail is a proposed multi-use trail project spanning approximately 9-miles connecting communities across the Santa Ynez Valley, from Buellton through Solvang and toward Highway 154. The trail is being planned for walking and bicycling, with equestrian use also being considered in some areas.

The project is now doing the work needed before construction, including evaluating potential routes, environmental and technical studies, design, and community engagement. A final trail route has not been decided. The trail is divided into six segments so different parts can move forward as they are ready and funding is secured.

SBCAG is leading the project in partnership with the cities of Buellton and Solvang, County of Santa Barbara, Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians, and Caltrans District 5 and other project partners.

Public Participation

Community input is an important part of planning the Santa Ynez Valley Trail. The project team wants to hear how people would use the trail and what should be considered, including potential routes, connections and destinations, safety, access, equestrian use, trail amenities and the Valley’s natural and rural character.
