Journey to Work Dashboard
An interactive look at commute patterns across Santa Barbara County
This dashboard uses data from Replica, a platform that estimates how people move within and between places. Replica uses an activity-based travel model (current best practice) that is calibrated to existing conditions. Replica updates its estimates twice per year in spring and fall. Figures shown here represent daily estimates for a typical Fall Thursday from 2019 through 2024. SBCAG will update the dashboard as new Replica releases become available.
Limitations:
- These results are best used to understand patterns and trends, not exact counts or individual behavior.
- Privacy protections intentionally limit precision, so the data will not perfectly match reality.
- As with any model, smaller sample sizes mean less confidence. This is especially applicable for low volume modes (such as biking, walking, and transit) and when considering travel between lightly populated areas.
Despite these limitations, Replica represents the best available data source for SBCAG to analyze travel patterns at this scale and level of detail. Figures should be interpreted as indicators of trends rather than exact counts.
