The SR 135 Comprehensive Corridor Study, at the requests of City of Santa Maria and SBCAG Directors, will assess improvements along the corridor between the unincorporated community of Orcutt, the City of Santa Maria, and US-101 in Northern Santa Barbara County. Serving as a major arterial and main street, the corridor requires enhancements in safety, mobility, congestion, access management, and GHG emissions reduction, benefiting all road users, including disadvantaged communities.
The study will serve as a coordinated planning effort to identify multimodal projects, such as roadway, transit, bicycle, pedestrian, and freight improvements, and to establish near- and long-term implementation priorities. In addition, bus rapid transit (BRT) service along the SR 135 corridor will be assessed. The BRT assessment should build upon existing work and include routing, scheduling, stop location, and implementation phasing concepts.
