What We Do

Protect public health, safety, and welfare by ensuring the orderly expansion of airports and the adoption of land use measures that minimize the public’s exposure to excessive noise and safety hazards within areas around public airports to the extent that these areas are not already devoted to incompatible uses.

About ALUC

As the Airport Land Use Commission (ALUC) for Santa Barbara County, SBCAG is responsible for protecting public health, safety and welfare by ensuring that vacant lands in the vicinity of airports are planned and zoned for uses compatible with airport operations.

Airport Land Use Compatibility Plans serve as a tool for the Airport Land Use Commission to review land use plans and development proposals within Airport Influence Areas. These Plans also provide land use compatibility policies and criteria applicable to local jurisdictions in their preparation or amendments of General Plans.
