Regional Transportation Plan Update

Santa Barbara County Association of Governments (SBCAG) invites you to play a role in updating the blueprint for the County’s transportation systems for the next 20 years. Commonly known as the Regional Transportation Plan, or RTP, it will define long-term transportation solutions that will meet the challenges of growth throughout the county while protecting and enhancing the environment.

SBCAG conducted four public workshops around the county in October 2007 to gather ideas on what important issues or projects that need to be examined.  To see the staff presentations, that include questions that you can answer, select your region in the county of particular interest:  Lompoc Valley, Santa Maria Valley, South Coast, and Santa Ynez Valley.  To provide SBCAG with your input, use the SBCAG Public Comment Form, e-mail Michael Powers, or mail your comments to the address below.  SBCAG will issue a draft  Regional Transportation Plan in 2008 that will be accompanied by a draft Environmental Impact Report and will be subject to public review.

Residents invited to provide input on County's Transportation Planning Process

Santa Barbara County residents will have an opportunity to provide input on how to improve the county’s transportation planning process at an April 8 public listening session.

Every four years the Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration jointly conduct a review and evaluation of the county’s transportation planning process carried out by the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments (SBCAG) and its partners. As part of the review, the public is invited to comment on the transportation planning process.

Written comments can be sent via e-mail to cert.review@fhwa.dot.gov or by regular mail to:

SBCAG releases Draft Regional Housing Needs Allocation Plan, Santa Barbara County, 2007-2014

The Draft Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA) Plan was released for public review by the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments Board on April 17, 2008.  The primary objective of the Regional Housing Needs Allocation Plan is to set the housing needs targets that each city and county uses in its local Housing Element of the Comprehensive Plan.  State legislation requires Council of Governments (COGs) to distribute total housing need as well as housing need by income categories.  COGs are also required to distribute the lower income portion of need in such a way that impaction of lower income households is avoided in any one jurisdiction.

As the State statues provides, local jurisdictions and the public have a period of 60-days to review the draft RHNA allocation methodology and Plan.  SBCAG will have a public hearing on the draft allocation methodology and draft Plan at its regularly scheduled meeting on June 19, 2008.  Comments received by June 6 will be incorporated in the staff report and distributed to our board in advance of the meeting.

Should you have any questions regarding the Draft Regional Housing Needs Allocation Plan contact SBCAG.
